Patrick Henry Herndon (M)
b. March 1802, d. 6 March 1836
Pop-up Pedigree
     Patrick was born at probably, Virginia, in March 1802.1 He was the son of John M. Herndon and Judith Hampton. He married Parmalee Smith say 1825. Patrick died on 6 March 1836, at the Battle of the Alamo in Texas,. Patrick Herndon fell while serving under Colonel David Crockett at the siege of the Alamo in Texas, on March 6, 1836. The final assault on the Alamo by Mexican General Santa Ana took place on that date, and every Texan died at their post. No one survived to tell the story. The bodies of the dead heros were gathered under Santa Ana's orders, heaped in a common pile and burned.

Later, on April 25th, at the battle of San Jacinto, the Mexican Army was annihilated in eighteen minutes and the President-General taken prisoner. Shortly after this the bones of the men of the Alamo were carefully gathered and decently buried..2,3

He married Katie LaRee Pate at Asheville, Buncombe Co., North Carolina, on 10 April 1910.4 Walter died on 26 June 1966, of a at home - 117 Heady Avenue, heart attack, at Louisville, Jefferson Co., Kentucky, at age 80. As usual, he lay down in the backyard hammock for a nap and simply never woke up, passing peacefully into the next life at 10:45 a.m.
Memorial services were held Tuesday at the St. Mathews Episcopal Church with contributions suggested to the Kosair Children's Hospital. He donated his body to medical science..5,6,7
